Meet Our Team

Dr. Hollifield Victoria M. Hollifield, DVM
Hospital Owner

I am the owner and veterinarian of Best Friends' Veterinary Hospital.

I opened my practice in 1992.  Ever since I was a little girl, I wanted to be a veterinarian. I graduated from UMUC, with honors, in 1984 and from Tuskegee University in 1988, as a member of the Phi Zeta Veterinary Honor Society. I did an externship program at Zoo Atlanta between my 2nd and 3rd year of vet school. I worked at NIH from 1987 to 1997, starting as a rodent and rabbit colony veterinarian at the Veterinary Resources Branch of the National Center for Research and Resources. I eventually became the Animal Program Director at the National Center for Human Genome Research. While commissioned officer at NIH, I worked part-time in several private practices.

I am an avid lover of all animal life and work with animal rescue operations for Montgomery County as well with wildlife at Second Chance Wildlife Sanctuary.

My husband, Bill Ponton, and I, have a wonderful son, Grant.

Hospital Manager

Taking care of animals and helping people are two passions that I have had throughout my life. Initially joining the Best Friends’ family as a receptionist, I brought with me over 20 years of experience providing client care/technician services in veterinary medicine, rescue work, and with pet care companies.

I’ve homed numerous animals over the years, and have loved every one of them as if they were my very own. I currently share my life with multiple rescues. No matter what the day brings, I enjoy knowing that hopefully someone’s “Best Friend” is a little bit happier.

Veterinary Technician

I joined Best Friends' Veterinary Hospital as a Veterinary Assistant in March 2021. I've moved all over the place throughout my studies, but settled down permanently here in Maryland after receiving my Bachelor's degree from McDaniel College.

Working with animals has been a lifelong passion of mine, and I plan on continuing my education to pursue a doctorate in veterinary medicine. I have a special fondness for reptiles and avians, and have studied falconry for several years. When I'm not working, I'm either spoiling my Husky mix (Peanut), driving, or geeking out over theatre.

Veterinary Assistant

I’m Raha. I'm working as a veterinary assistant at BFVH, and I love being around all kinds of animals and learning every day. I'm majoring in animal science at the University of Maryland and will be graduating May 2021. I'm aiming to go to veterinary school and to be a veterinarian one day.

Dr. Hollifield and her staff have created an enjoyable and caring environment to give the greatest care to animals, and that has made it the best place for me to gain as much experience as possible.

Hi, I'm Tate. I'm a veterinary assistant at Best Friends' Veterinary Hospital and I love to work with a variety of different animals and learn something new every day. I love cats and dogs, but I have a special fondness for penguins.

Currently, I am an Animal Science major at the University of Maryland College Park and will graduate in 2024. I plan on minoring in philosophy as well. In the future, I am aiming to go to veterinary school and become a veterinarian who specializes in surgeries. When I am not in school or working, I love to run and play soccer with friends.

I'm Nik, and I'd love to meet your pet! I'm really glad to be working here at Best Friends and having the opportunity to meet (and treat) your pet to bring them to their best! Growing up with dogs and riding horses, I am no stranger to the quirks and crazy mess of pets and the energy that we know and love them for.

Amy
Kennel Manager

I started at Best Friends' Veterinary Hospital as an intern and then an assistant. I have always had a passion for working with different animals and would love to meet everyone’s pets! I do not have any pets of my own currently, but am looking forward to the day that I can have a pet. I love cats and dogs, but am also a huge fan of birds.

I am majoring in Animal Science at the University of Maryland and will graduate in August 2021. I hope to be able to further my education by going to veterinary school and becoming a veterinarian one day. When I am not in school or working, I enjoy drawing, playing badminton, and the occasional horseback riding.
